Disclaimer: I was a guest of Visit Detroit and the MotorCity Casino on Saturday night. My room was provided in order to facilitate this review. All opinions are my own and based on my personal experience.
Fun fact: I used to live in the frozen tundra of Wisconsin. Fortunately, my survival was based on a travel schedule that had me on the road more often than home. Flying out of Milwaukee, I’d been to Detroit a few times. Actually, I’d never been to the city, just a layover here and there in the massive Detroit Airport. Side note, I don’t normally recommend eating sushi in airports, but Detroit is the exception! Anyway, I was scheduled to fly in Sunday and hit the ground running with Ford. Then I started thinking, why not go a day early, and seize the chance to see a little more of the Motor City. Travel delays leaving Houston meant I got into Detroit later than expected, so much for taking advantage of the D. Tour spa at the MotorCity Casino. I was really disappointed! Their Signature massage, the MotorCity Music Massage, uses high-tech and high-touch therapy with“SO Sound” speakers in the massage table, so you can hear and feel the music, which sounds right up my alley.
Instead of experiencing a massage, and tasting one of their craft cocktails, I was riding shotgun with a friend to The Palace of Auburn Hills. My original plan was to check-in, maybe enjoy a massage, grab a drink, and head out to see the Pistons take on the Suns. But, torrential rain in Detroit delayed my flight by over two hours, which meant no time to enjoy the huge tub in my room, or try ordering room service from my smart TV! I’m still dreaming about the White Manhattan, recommended by the MotorCity Casino social media team! Note to self: Return to MotorCity Casino in Detroit, book MotorCity Music Massage, arrange craft cocktail tasting, and hunt down the mythical “lobster bacon.” I’ve traveled a LOT. And, stayed in a lot of beautiful five star, award winning hotels, so it’s not easy to impress me. Yet, I’ve never stayed in a room with such cool features on my TV like the one in the MotorCity casino. From the comfort of my king sized bed, I could change the thermostat, request maid service or put the do not disturb light on my door, order room service, check my bill, and more! Speaking of awards, both the hotel and their restaurant, Iridescence, hold AAA Four Diamond awards!
From the spacious room, the bathroom (roughly the size of my kitchen), the 300 thread count sheets, oh and the Turkish cotton towels, I almost missed the 11 AM check-out. Sure, my Sunday was packed with plans to sight-see, but who wants to leave a hotel that leaves a gift basket in your room full of local snacks, or a side of “awesomesauce” as they called it. Thank goodness there wasn’t a TV in the bathroom, or my Sunday plans might have been cancelled.
On my way to check-out, I was pleasantly surprised when the maid asked if I’d enjoyed my stay and said she hoped to see me again soon! I dropped off my bags at the front desk and roamed around the property. Can you believe I didn’t enter the casino? I’ve never gambled in a casino before, but my lucky number is 13 and I stayed in room 1316, so that might have been a missed opportunity!
If you’re planning a visit to Detroit, check out the MotorCity Casino Hotel! It’s family friendly, and has so much to offer whether you enjoy rolling the dice, seeing a show, eating an award winning meal, and more, this high energy property has you covered! “Like” MotorCity Casino on Facebook and follow @MotorCityCasino to stay up to date with special shows like 3 Doors Down in February!
