Sometimes I feel like you don’t even know me! YOU! Yes, you, reading this right NOW. If you’ve read anything on my site, it’s pretty obvious I’m not a heel wearing kind of girl. Well, there is one exception, some of my cowboy boots may have a slight heel. But from the moment I shared I was attending Heels and Wheels 2015 in Los Angeles, everyone asked, “YOU in heels?!?” That was followed by even sillier question like, “If it’s an all female event, will there be makeovers and gossip?”
Forget about the dress code. Stop with the stereotypes. We have more important topics to discuss. Like, what happens when you offer me 14 different cars to drive in less than a day? Or…what was it like cruising down PCH in the 2015 Jaguar F-TYPE convertible with the top down? Okay, yes, if it was required, I would sport a pair of heels for the chance to drive this sexy machine! Although, I’d be worried my appearance in heels might upstage the automobiles.
Okay, so in all seriousness, there’s no way anyone could steal the thunder from this awesome line-up of vehicles:
Heels and Wheels 2015: It’s All About The Drive
2015 Dodge Challenger Scat Pack with Shaker Hood
Priced at $46,180
Engine: 6.4 L V8 HEMI with 8 speed automatic transmission
Horsepower: 485 Horsepower and 475 lb-ft torque
Fuel Rating: 14/23
Driving Impressions: Sexy, powerful and meant to be driven on winding roads or highways, the Challenger Scat Pack is what car enthusiasts dream about.
Priced at $43,735 as driven.
Engine: 4 cylinder turbocharged engine with 6 speed automatic transmission
Horsepower: 259 hp and 295 lb-ft torque
Fuel Rating: 19/27 mpg
Highlights: Standard with OnStar 4G LTE and a built-in wi-fi hotspot. I only took the Buick for a short spin, but immediately found the interior comfortable and loved the customizable displays. Even just a quick spin in this sporty sedan, and I understand why it has everyone asking “that’s a Buick”.
Priced at $41, 685 as driven.
Engine: 6.4L HEMI V8 with 8 speed automatic transmission
Horsepower: 485 hp and 475 lb-ft torque
Fuel Rating: 15 mpg city, 25 mpg highway
Driving Impression: WHOA! Pure and simple a muscle car that was made for the road, but can also handle the needs of a family. Want to be the coolest Mom or Dad on the block? This is the car for you, with enough toys to put the fun in running errands and find reasons for road trips.
Priced at $38,915 as driven.
Engine:3.6L DI DOHC V6 VVT, 4WD
Horsepower:305 hp and 227 lb-ft torque @6800 rpm
Fuel rating:20 city/24 hwy/17 combined
Highlights: I love the special touches that are unique to the All Terrain edition of the GMC Canyon, but nothing gets me more excited than the 4G LTE hotspot. While the mid-size truck may offer a smaller package that appeals to females, it still packs a mighty punch with the ability to tow up to 7,000 lbs. You can watch my interview with Chief Vehicle Engineer Anita Burke on video.
Priced at $54,690 as driven
Engine: 3.5L V6 with CVT
Fuel Rating:21 mpg/27 mpg
Driving Impression: Stay tuned for a full review as I’m driving this 3rd row SUV to San Antonio with the family. I’m looking forward to enjoying the Bose Cabin Surround system during our three hour drive. Road trips with the kids are stressful, but with all the safety features on the QX60, I can relax a little bit.
Priced at $49,470 as driven.
Engine:2.0L Turbocharged 4-Cyl AWD 9 speed automatic transmission
Horsepower:240 hp @5800 rpm
Fuel Rating:20 city/26 hwy/22 combined
Driving Impression:I didn’t expect to like the Land Rover Discovery Sport, but I was blown away by the features, and the under $50k price tag! Stylish inside and out, packed with technology, but still capable of getting down and dirty in the mud, this Land Rover grabbed my attention. I’d love to have some more seat time in this Luxury Ute both on and off the road.
Priced at $29,345 as driven.
Engine: 1.8L Turbocharged FWD TSI 6-Speed Automatic
Horsepower: 170 hp @4500 rpm
Fuel Rating: 25 City/35 hwy/29 combined
Driving Impression: I ran out of time, and didn’t drive the Volkswagen Golf SportWagen. I will say if we were buying a wagon, this one is bringing sexy back!
Priced at $42,055 as driven
Engine:2.0 L Turbocharged 4-cyl/FWD with 8 speed automatic transmission
Horsepower: 235 hp with 258 lb-ft of torque

Driving Impression: I drove the Lexus NX 200t briefly last fall and was ready to buy one after five miles. Fun, sexy and responsive, the exterior is bold, but the ride is smooth.
Priced at $40,305 as driven
Engine: 3.5L V6/FWD
Horsepower: 260 hp @6,000 rpm
Fuel Rating:21 mpg/ 28 mpg
Driving Impression: Shut the front door! The new Murano has swagger, yes swagger. I think Jasmine and I both called the interior “swanky” within seconds of sitting in the zero gravity seats. Roomy, luxurious and ready to put luxury brands on notice, this affordable SUV checks all the boxes whether you have a family, or just want a SUV that will make your friends jealous.
Priced at $105,000 as driven
Engine: 3.0-liter supercharged V6 engine
Horsepower: 380 top speed 171 mph
Fuel Rating: 19/27 mpg
Driving Impression: For now, I will quote Rene Syler from Good Enough Mother “Driving this car is better than a facelift. It’s such a departure from my everyday life – it’s sexy, fun and fast!” No way, I could describe it any better!
No, I wasn’t able to drive all of the 14 automobiles in one day. There were a few I skipped since I’d previously driven and reviewed them, like the 2015 Lexus RC F, 2015 Mitsubishi Outlander Sport, and 2016 Mazda 6. While I didn’t drive the 2016 Kia Sorento SXL in Los Angeles, less than a week later I was driving it around Lake Tahoe. Stay tuned for the review, coming soon!
This was my first Heels & Wheels event, and my first experience with an all women automotive event, but I hope it won’t be the last! No offense guys, I like seeing you on automotive press trips too, but having time to hear from female engineers like Alison Rahm with Dodge and Anita Burke with GMC was empowering.
My travel expenses and meals were covered by Heels and Wheels. All impressions and opinions are my own.
