I attended NBA All Star Weekend in New Orleans as a member of Crown Royal Center Court program. All expenses were covered by Crown Royal.
So far in 2014, I have been living the dream, and I hope I don’t wake up anytime soon. When I received the invitation to attend the 2014 NBA All Star Weekend with Crown Royal, I had no idea what to expect. Then the itinerary hit my inbox, and I might have panicked a little. What, is this work from home Mom, going to wear to party with Kenny Smith, Nick Cannon and Kevin Hart? Ummm, most days I just wear my pajamas as I hammer out posts from my desk.
Relax, I told myself, you always have a blast and you are still hip, and I believed it….until I met the other ultra hip Crown Center Court bloggers and Crown Royal peeps. Let there be no doubt, this was an awesome group of bloggers, media influencers and PR reps! Joe from Joe’s Daily might be a guest on Dr. Drew, but he’s still down to earth and a blast to hang with! Jay from Baller Status has the coolest collection of kicks, and even though I was seriously outnumbered by guys, we all became fast friends.
Friday night started with a whiskey tasting at The Metropolitan Night Club led by Master of Whiskey Robert Sickler. It was love at first sip when I encountered Crown XO for the first time. I sipped it neat, mixed with pineapple juice in a cocktail Crown called the “Buzzer Beater”, and mixed with Coke. Crown XO is exceptionally smooth, elegant, and is perfectly balanced. Then we partied in “da club” while Nick Cannon spun sick beats and Charles Barkley was mobbed by fans and all the single ladies.
Both Friday & Saturday night we partied in the club like VIPs, with our own area and bottle service. People watching was an adventure in itself, not just the celebrities like Kevin Hart, Kenny Smith, but at times I felt like we were on an episode of “What Not to Wear”. I’m speaking specifically to the lady in the cheetah onesie, but there were others! Oh and let me just say, Art Eddy and Sean Francois busted out some incredible moves to Biz Markie’s beats.
I partied like a rock star, all though it’s clear I am NOT hip. While almost everyone knew the lyrics, I stood in the corner and pretended to have rhythm. And when, they said Timbaland was in our hotel lobby, I thought, really the guy that makes Timberland shoes, why is that a big deal? Then there was the time, traffic stopped because someone was yelling I looked “fabulous”…actually they weren’t taking to me but hip hop artist Fabolous. With no idea who either of these people were, I decided they were “worth a Google.”
To recap, it was an unbelievable weekend, and I can’t thank Crown Royal and Diageo enough for including me in the Crown Royal NBA All Star festivities!
Now, I gotta get back to practicing my moves on Just Dance and study the lyrics to the latest hip hop. Cheers! By the way, Joe C., I LOVE your expression in this photo!
