The New 2017 Kia Sportage Turns Heads

If, when you think of Kia, you think of a unique boxy crossover and hamsters with “Soul”, you might need to get to know the brand a little better. The Korean car brand definitely has some creative ads grabbing consumers attention with NBA superstars Blake Griffin and Lebron James, but their vehicles are also turning heads. For example, the 2017 Kia Sportage with its “tiger nose” grille stands out in a somewhat boring CUV segment.

During our week with the 2017 Kia Sportage, we collected a few compliments along the way. My personal favorite, “those wheels though, are you sure that’s a Kia?!” Yes, my friend, this is the new Kia. Chief design officer, Peter Schreyer is driving the Kia brand towards a bold, aggressive, yet refined exterior complemented by an interior with premium touches.

Style Drives The New Sportage

The 2017 Kia Sportage is Kia’s fourth-generation of their longest rolling nameplate, and it’s safe to say its gotten better with age. The newest Sportage rocks in more ways than one. It has style, it has space, and incredible sound when equipped with the 320-watt Harman Kardon® premium audio system with Clari-Fi™8 technology. Seriously, this is the CUV you want in your driveway. And, while the Sportage has a lower starting price than its competition ($22,990 Sportage LX), you’re going to want to give the fully loaded SX Turbo ($32,500) a hard look.

The SX Turbo includes a D-shaped, heated and leather-wrapped steering wheel with paddle shifters, piano black trim along the center console, aluminum alloy pedals, and authentic stitching on the dashboard. With its sport-tuned suspension, and 240-horsepower 2.0-liter turbocharged engine, you don’t need to have a lead foot to feel the power. Whether parked in the garage or racking up miles on the road, the 19-inch wheels, satin exterior trim, and dual exhaust pipes are on point.

Improved handling, advanced safety technology and plenty of cargo space are just a few ways the Sportage has improved. When I wasn’t playing chaffeur to the kids, I found myself making excuses to run errands so I could crank up the Harmon Kardon sound system.  As I explored my new hometown, I snapped some fun photos starring the stylish Sportage.

On the way home, a few glances at the speedometer reminded me the Sportage Turbo could get me in trouble…and that’s my favorite kind of CUV.
