2015 Lexus RC F First Impressions
Imagine a car that speaks to you. Not actual voices, like “your door is ajar”. No, I mean a vehicle that seems to connect with you on an emotional and physical level. During my road and track experience with the 2015 Lexus RC F, the luxury vehicle delivered performance with personality. I laid eyes on the car, and the car screamed “I’m sleek. I’m sexy. Control me or be controlled.”
I couldn’t take my eyes off it’s curves and angles. Quad stacked tailpipes sound as sexy as they look, and striking design meets bold colors, like the Molten Pearl (orange is the new black),Ultrasonic Blue Mica 2.0, and Infrared. Never a fan of red cars, I was surprised the Infrared was my favorite. I think the sharp angles combined with the powerful 467-horsepower 5.0-liter V8 engine, demands a powerful color.
As the sunlight shifted, the Molten pearl reflected different shades of orange.
Power. Let’s talk power. With your foot on the gas you can travel 0-60 mph in 4.4 seconds, but the high-back design seats with side bolsters keep you from sliding around in the seat. Speed gets my adrenaline pumping, but the growling of the responsive engine, enhanced with active sound control, made me weak in the knees. Even when braking around the corners of the NOLA Motorsports track, the downshifting was a sexy, low growl that made the car enthusiast in me, grin ear to ear.
I’d never driven on a track before, and so, I took the first lap slow and with caution. I quickly learned you have as much or as little control as you want in the Lexus RC F. In Sports + mode, the transmission automatically downshifts when hard braking in a corner. It stays in a lower gear through the corner for greater control, and responds quickly to acceleration coming out of the turn. The electronically controlled Lexus Torque Vectoring Differential (TVD) makes it fun to handle, as you power through the turns of a track or the S-turns of a back road.
On the street, I found myself reigning in the power, with my foot on the brake, more than the accelerator. But the biggest surprise, was how well the car handled off the track. The back roads of New Orleans weren’t the smoothest, but riding shotgun in the 2015 Lexus RC F, I wasn’t feeling the loose gravel or uneven asphalt.
Most of my time with the car was spent driving, but even as a passenger I was content to let the seats hold me, while listening to the Mark Levinson® Premium Surround Sound system. With 17 speakers and 835 watts of power, I could close my eyes and pretend I was at Megan Trainor’s concert. I loved the look and feel of the smooth, black carbon finishes. But, it’s no surprise, my favorite place was in the driver’s seat testing the limits of the RC F on the track.
Really everything about the 2015 Lexus RC F is bold, from the spindle grille that makes a statement, the high tech instrument panel with lap timer and G force display, the easy to use remote touch interface, to the distinctive three dimensional L shaped rear tail lamps. People will stare with envy, and when they hear the rev of the engine, they’ll swoon with desire. I almost cried when I tossed the keys back to the valet.
The 2015 Lexus RC F starts at $62,400. Start adding options like the upgraded sound system, blind spot warning, etc., and you’re closer to $70k. If I was single, could drive the car on the track on the weekends, and to work during the week, I’d buy one in a heartbeat. This isn’t your average sports car. It encourages you to take control, and challenge the road. The 2015 Lexus RC F delivers luxury performance with personality. This car speaks to you, do you hear it?
