Anyone that’s ever watched “The Biggest Loser”, is familiar with that dramatic moment when contestants step on the scale, to see how much weight they’ve lost. The finale is full of shocking, dramatic transformations, after their makeovers. Well….the ALL new 2015 Ford F-150 has just been revealed, up to 700 pounds lighter and sporting a bolder exterior. Anyone or anything that can shed 700 pounds, and be even tougher than before, is a winner! And the reveal, was definitely done in dramatic fashion, as you can see in this video by The Fast Lane Truck.
I really couldn’t have described it any better than fellow blogger, Casey Palmer, “The F-150 bust through the wall like the Kool-Aid Man. We should announce all new product this way.”
Visually a show stopper, the 2015 Ford F-150 Aluminum body is much more than just a pretty face. Its physical transformation, along with new technology makes the 2015 Ford F-150 the smartest, toughest, most capable F-150 to ever hit the road.
Tougher: Featuring an all-new high-strength steel frame, military grade aluminum-alloy body, with more than 10 million miles of testing and Baja 1000-proven 2.7-liter EcoBoost® engine
Smarter: Eleven new class-exclusive features, like the 360-degree camera view, integrated loading ramps stowed in the pickup bed, 400-watt power outlets inside the cab, LED headlights and sideview mirror spotlights, and remote tailgate release
More capable: Up to 700 pounds lighter with your choice of four engines equals an impressive combination of power, capability and efficiency. This allows customers to haul more and tow more with increased efficiency.
“More than ever before, customers want a truck that is a dependable partner, mobile office and a go-anywhere workshop,” said Raj Nair, Ford group vice president, Global Product Development. “To meet the needs of our truck customers, we created smart new features and a whole new approach to using advanced materials and engines to improve capability and efficiency.”
The F-150’s strength doesn’t come from eating Wheaties, it’s from the frame’s 77 percent high-strength steel, tested at 70,000 PSI. You won’t find any excess fat or weight in the body, composed of 95% military grade aluminum. While the frame is wider, Ford has lowered the drop down on the doors by 2 inches to increase visibility for both the driver and passenger.
I had the chance to speak with Phil Collareno, Ford’s Vehicle Line Director, while at the NAIAS Detroit Auto Show. While looking at the cutaway, he discussed how the new aluminum would be more resistant to dings and dents than steel.
“We believe the new F-150 really sets the standard for the future of trucks,” said Phil Collareno.
Those of you that drooled over the Ford Atlas Concept may see some similar characteristics in the new F-150 like the Active Grille Shutters. Active Grille Shutters open during hot weather or low speed stop and go driving to provide extra cooling for the engine. When you reach cruising speed, the shutters automatically close to reduce aerodynamic drag. The Dynamic Hitch Assist, 360-degree camera system, LED spotlight mirrors and LED box lighting, were also inspired by the Atlas.
I’m extremely excited about the new technology, especially the 360 degree camera. Anyone that’s ever been in a vehicle with me, knows parking in garages or maneuvering in tight spots is a major issue for me. I think the birds eye view provided by the camera, and blind spot radar will solve my parking issues. Trailer hitch assist, means even I, can hook up a trailer without it becoming YouTube worthy material.
Maybe the remote tailgate doesn’t seem like a valuable feature, but in Texas, where 34% of tailgate thefts in the country happened in 2013; truck owners will LOVE the ability to lock, unlock, and release the tailgate with the key fob. Guys, like my hubby, can get rid of the bulky power inverter they lug around, because Ford has installed a 400 watts, 110 volts outlet in the console! My husband can charge his drill, and I can power my laptop or camera.
There’s also the innovative blind spot information system, which uses radar hidden in the tail-lamps to detect a vehicle, bicycle,or object, entering your blind spot while driving or backing up. I know this feature will make parking, and backing up much easier for me.
Ford owns tough, and the 2015 Ford F-150 is a game changer, with over 100 patents filed!
