Scottsdale, Arizona is hot and happening in the spring. Temps are in the 80s and higher, more than enough to make you sweat, but the heat rises another notch with all the hot major league baseball players in town for spring training. Of course the W Scottsdale is happening all year round, with its prime Scottsdale square location. Thus, it made perfect sense for Ford to choose the W Scottsdale, as home base for the 2015 Ford Edge media launch.
I rolled into town late in the afternoon, and while the shimmering WET pool at the W was begging me to take a dip, there was work to be done. Probably for the best, since there’s also the fact that I didn’t pack a swimsuit. Of course that could have been solved two ways: (1) push the Whatever/Whenever button on the phone and the W Scottsdale would send someone out to buy me a swimsuit, or (2) walk less than half a mile to the Scottsdale Fashion Square. Alright, let’s be real, when it comes to shopping, always have someone else do it for you.
Downstairs, Ford had converted some of the meeting space into a Ford Edge showcase. After feeding our minds with facts and stats on the all new 2015 Ford Edge, we sipped cocktails and ate dinner. This is where I warn you, the W Scottsdale has a pastry chef that will tempt anyone. I don’t go cuckoo for sweets, but I swiped a bite from a colleague’s plate and holy moly it was GOOD! Their creations are sinfully delicious and dangerous for your waistline.
Eager to escape the sweets, and maybe drool over some eye candy instead, we headed across the street to the Dakota. This bar has character, the perfect patio for people watching, and bottle service if you’re looking to party. Really the W Scottsdale has plenty of hip places for the cool kids to hang, but you can also walk to the happening hotspots or catch a golf cart to your next destination, like Dierks Bentley’s Whiskey Row, El Hefe, or other places in the entertainment district.
Of course early mornings, mean early nights, and the signature W bed was the perfect place for a few hours of sleep. Up with the roosters on Thursday, Jasmine from Simply Real Moms and I, grabbed the 2015 Ford Edge Sport and headed for the Arizona hills. Outside of town, we headed toward the Tonto National Forest. Even on a cloudy, overcast day, the desert heat was present. Dual climate control, ventilated seats, and deodorant are your friends.
We navigated the winding roads and hills with the powerful 2.7-liter EcoBoost V6 engine under the hood. One thing was clear, the 2015 Ford Edge Sport was made to handle curvy roads like a champ. Oh, and with a bigger body, bolder grille, and other cosmetic changes, it’s as fun to look at as it is to drive. I won’t even mention how much technology Ford packed into the Edge, and I can’t get official confirmation as to whether my horrendous parking inspired the enhanced active park assist.
Let’s just say I am in love with all the tech on the Ford Edge, and might have prevented damage to previous vehicles with a front 180 degree view camera.
